welcome to the literary Intiative for Teens

Empowering Young Voices

Created by a teen for teens, LIT is a space to read boldly, write bravely, and grow through community. Explore classics, challenge ideas, and find your voice.

what's our why?

LIT (Literary Initiative for Teens) is a peer-led platform created to inspire a new generation of readers and writers.

Founded by a passionate teen, Aurora. LIT was built to spark curiosity, foster literacy, and build writing confidence; without the pressure of grades or rigid rules. We believe teens thrive when they engage with books that challenge their thinking, when the stories truly matter, and when they’re part of a community that encourages growth. Through thoughtful reading, creative writing, and peer-supported discussion, we aim to strengthen comprehension, communication, and critical thinking which are the very skills that shape strong minds and bold voices.

We’re not here to check boxes. We’re here to fall in love with reading—and to write like it means something.

In addition to being a creative space for youth, LIT also serves as a live writing portfolio for its founder, Aurora. Her blog posts, book reviews, and personal writing samples are shared publicly to reflect her growth over time and support her academic and literary goals. While her work is highlighted, LIT remains a collaborative community where every teen has the opportunity to grow, share, and be heard.

how it works

LIT is a free, teen-led community open to all readers and writers between ages 12 and 17.
Each month, we explore carefully selected books, from timeless classics to powerful nonfiction and stories of resilience, all chosen to challenge ideas and strengthen reading comprehension.

Alongside the book club, members can join weekly writing prompts and share their work in a safe, moderated space. It’s a place to grow your voice, improve your skills, and connect with others who love words too.

book club

Each month, we dive into a book chosen to stretch the way we think — whether it's a classic, nonfiction, or a meaningful story of endurance.
In our discussions, we explore key themes, examine writing styles, unpack vocabulary, and reflect on how stories connect to real life. Whether you're reading ahead or just getting started, there's always space for your voice in the conversation.

Writing by the Water

Each week, we post a creative prompt to spark your imagination — from storytelling challenges to reflective essays and dialogue drills.
Writers can share their responses in a peer-led, moderated space where you’ll learn to give and receive thoughtful feedback, explore technique, and grow your confidence.
No grades. No pressure. Just writing for the love of it.

Tree Planting

grow with lit

LIT isn’t just about becoming a stronger reader or writer — it’s about planting a seed that lasts. As you grow in skill, voice, and confidence, we hope you’ll use those gifts to encourage others too.

Whether that means helping a sibling understand a chapter, starting a conversation about a book that moved you, or giving kind, honest feedback to another writer — your words can make a difference.

We believe stories have power, and that every teen has something worth saying.
